Abortion,
Football & Apple Pie, The Americanization of Evil
“Men
occasionally stumble over the truth but most of them pick
themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened.”~
Sir Winston Churchill
This
January 22nd
was a land-mark decision for Small Victories. It would be the
first time the matriarch of this family made the trek to the
annual March for Life in
Washington
,
D.C.
It’s not easy to take time away from this ministry and our
large family. We wanted to experience this event and see what
all the “hoopla” is all about. For years, we have tried to
dissuade those able bodies from D.C. but rather go march to your
local killing mill on the disdainment of this date that was
decided by 7 of the 9 chin-drooling men in black robes in 1973.
After
34 years of child
killing on demand, abortion has become as
Americana
as football and apple pie. We have seen it and been dealing with
the epidemic of abortion apathy in our churches, in our
community, and in our nation. Returning recently from my first
“March for Life,” an annual pro-life feel-good event, it
reminded me more of my early days at summer camp rather than
“boot-camp.” I guess I was naïve to think we might
experience a revolution but it turned out to be just another
resolution in the streets of D.C. It was good to schmooze with
the big pro-life veterans and public figures, but “what did we
accomplish?” was the feeling we left with. It was a daring
step to march down
Constitution Avenue
holding this lil’ guy named “Malachi” whose name means
“messenger.” His picture was the poster-child of the
infamous and widely used D&E abortion procedure.
We
strategically worked our way up to the third line of parade
marchers right in front of the March for Life flag line. As we
marched, photographers focused in on us and quickly turned their
cameras after realizing what we were showing. The parade
bystanders looked interested, some surprised... Many, many
commented, “Is that what it looks like?” One girl said,
“That picture needs to be here.”
Over
100,000 pro-lifers were in attendance. Before the March, we
stood at the steps of the Capitol building and looked upon the
Mall in front of the
Washington
Monument
. It was an awesome sight to see the crowd. President Bush
addressed the gathering via phone and loud speakers. It appeared
the only media covering this was the Catholic network. There was
a notably high concentration of Catholics; it appeared once
again they were the backbone of this movement.
Ashamedly,
it also appears as though
America
has become so calloused to killing children in the womb, this
event is just another day. Over fifty
million people have been slaughtered and it doesn’t even
register to the common man. We don’t even flinch.
Is
it any wonder why we see so much bloodshed on the streets of
most inner cities? Is it any wonder the number one killer of
children out of the womb, are the very same people who should be
taking every measure to ensure their protection and safety:
their parents?
Most
of the pro-lifers at this event have never seen an abortion, let
alone the sidewalk outside of an abortion clinic. Most of these
good intentioned people have been fighting this battle through
the politicians and local CPCS.
This will not stop abortion. We must plead the case of the
fatherless to win it, not to perpetuate it. We must absolutely,
positively stand on God’s Word to win this battle. Week after
week standing outside our local abortion mill in
Granite City
,
IL
, we see moms and dads and girl after girl after girl repeatedly
using surgical abortion as their method of birth control. And
for the most part Mom and Dad know their kids are sexually
active, and look the other way. When is the last time you heard
a sermon on morality and family values? You don’t. Most
churches are growing a financial ministry and they are not about
to rock the boat with their tithers.
In
the book of Jeremiah, another wonderful prophet who was hated in
his own hometown, we read “They
dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious.
‘Peace, peace,’ they say, when there is no peace. Are they
ashamed of their loathsome conduct? No, they have no shame at
all; they do not even know how to blush.” When we make
exceptions we are still accommodating evil.
We
are no better than we were 34
years ago with the inception of abortion. We have fought for the
lives of the innocent on every front.
We
have fought for the lives of children on every venue,
educational, political, economic, compassionate, etc. We have
tried to educate
America
about the sanctity of life. We have plunged into the political
realm, electing Republican and conservative mercenaries to fight
our battles for us. We have given financially, over and over
again, to help mothers in crisis pregnancies. We have
established crisis pregnancy centers. There is deep division and
undermining in the legislative and political realm. We are
trying to regulate evil. Now, how do you successfully do that?
But,
we have failed at fighting at the root of the problem: morality.
Our kids are being indoctrined into a sea of filth and violence
on the boob-tube: the MTV generation and listening to rap-crap
music on the radio. We allow girls to walk out the house in
their little sister’s clothing and the boys look like they
fell into a fish-tackle box. They need a parent to purchase a
can of paint or get their ears pierced, and yet they can stroll
right into an abortion mill anytime of day or night.
Marching
down
Constitution Avenue
was great, but the rest of
America
was marching into the abortion mill while the church was
building that great entertainment center. Principles have been
so watered down and the playing field has become so muddled with
compromise and exceptions, the end zone is no longer insight.
That evening sitting at the Rose for Life dinner, the leaders
and attendees were announcing plans for the 35th
year of “March for Life.” We keep fighting this battle the
same way and are expecting different results. If you always do
what you always did, you’ll always get what you always got.
Enough!
It’s time to take the field back. It’s time to quit playing
a good game of pro-life. We must confess that we have failed to
love our little brothers and sisters as ourselves and we must
begin at the root of the problem and draw a line in the sand.
The devil is robbing, killing, and destroying God’s heritage
while we sit by trying to educate, negotiate, buy off, or be
compassionate with God’s sworn enemy. It’s time to take back
what the enemy has stolen. It’s time to restore full
protection to the children in the womb, no exceptions, no
compromise.
When
the
Church
of
Jesus Christ
allows her theology to become biography at local abortions mills
in every city, is when we win. The gates of hell cannot prevail
against the Church of Jesus Christ.
It’s
Super-Bowl week here
in our nation. We are in the fourth quarter, there are two
minutes left on the clock. We need some fourth quarter Christian
pro-lifers. Now, who’s coming with me?
Be
encouraged~ Angela
